Tobias PM Schneid received numerous prizes and awards for his compositions already during his composition studies in Würzburg (with Bertold Hummel, and especially Heinz Winbeck). 

In addition to the renowned composition prize of the state capital Stuttgart (1987), he received, among others, the prize "Forum junger Komponisten" of the WDR (1989), twice the composition and audience prize of the Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker (1990; 1992), the 1st prize of the 1st Vienna International Composition Competition initiated by Claudio Abbado (1991), a six-month scholarship of the Cité international des arts (1993), as well as the "Bayerischen Staatspreis" for Young Artists in 1995. 
 

In 1996 Schneid was composer in residence at the University of Manchester.
 Since then his works - besides strong influences by the music of Maurice Ravel and Gustav Mahler definitely also inspired by advanced forms of jazz and rock music - have developed into a completely independent, individual, contemporary musical language.

His oeuvre includes works of almost all musical genres: from full-orchestral symphonies, solo concertos and an extensive catalog of works for ensemble music and chamber music to a full-length ballet and a new composition to be played live on film for Walter Ruttmann's revolutionary movie "Berlin - Die Sinfonie Großstadt" in 1927. 

His previous work has been documented on four portrait CDs, as well as in collaboration with internationally renowned artists and orchestras. His works have been performed and recorded by the BBC Symphony Orchestra London, the Radio Symphony Orchestras of the BR, SWR Freiburg and Baden-Baden, the WDR and SR, the DSO Berlin, the BJO and the Munich Chamber Orchestra, among others, under the direction of such renowned conductors as Andris Nelsons, Kent Nagano, John Storgårds, Dennis Russell Davies, Sylvain Cambreling, Jonathan Stockhammer, Johannes Kalitzke, Peter Rundel, Brad Lubman, Friedrich Cerha and Christoph Poppen. The SWR Vokalensemble premiered his 3rd Symphony "XXI" for 28 vocalists under the direction of Marcus Creed. In the field of ensemble music and chamber music, Schneid has composed for the Musikfabrik NRW, SIGNUM Quartet, öenm Salzburg, Raschér Saxophone Quartet, TrioLog Munich, "die reihe" Vienna, Psappha Manchester, Ensemble Cologne, the Minguet Quartet, the Rodin Quartet (with Siegfried Palm as soloist), the Leopold Mozart Quartet, and for the Tecchler Trio.

Solo works were written for Jörg Widmann, Maximilian Hornung, Alban Gerhardt, Carin Levine, Stefan Schilli, Salome Kammer and Valentin Radutiu, among others.

Numerous international competitions - including the International Clarinet Competition Freiburg 2011, as well as the International Music Competition of the ARD Munich (2007; 2014) - have commissioned the respective compulsory compositions of the finalist round from Schneid.

His works were nominated and performed as official German contributions to the World Music Days in 1989, 1991 and 2006. In cooperation with the Goethe-Institute, concert tours and lecture tours have taken him throughout Europe and Asia. In 2009 and 2015 
 Schneid was nominated for the GEMA Music Authors Award. Since 2015 he is a full member of the "Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste".

Tobias PM Schneid was born in 1963 in Rehau/Hof and grew up in Munich and Augsburg. He has been teaching music theory and composition at the conservatory/university of music in Würzburg since 1997 and has been a lecturer in composition at Jeunnesses Musicale and the Bayreuth Festival Weeks.
